PUBLIC PLANS vs PRIVATE PLANS
Public ACA or ObamaCare Plans
Open Enrollment runs from Nov 1-Dec 15 for everyone to enroll in Market Place Plan Coverage. These plans offer comprehensive coverage that meets the 10 minimum essential health benefit of the Affordable Care Act (ACA or “Obamacare”). Including benefits for inpatient and outpatient health-care services, pregnancy, substance abuse & mental health with no pre-existing condition exclusions. Because these plans insure anyone, regardless of medical conditions, they have very high premiums and dedcutibles. However, tax credits may be available to help pay for coverage if you income qualify.
Private Health Insurance Plans
Private plans are available year round. These plans accept relatively healthy people, so not everyone can get approved. Because of this approval process, these plans tend to offer much lower premiums and often no deductible. They also give access to nationwide PPO networks from United, Cigna, Aetna and more. If approved, these are long term plans that can save you 30-40% on health insurance. These plans don't offer coverage for pregnancy, substance abuse, mental health.

SHORT TERM & LIMITED BENEFIT PLANS
Short Term & Limited Benefit Plans are your last means of health coverage. These plans are designed to fill in a gap of covergage if you can't afford Major Medical or get approved for Group plans. Short Term & Limited Benefit plans are not major medical and do not include benefits for pregnancy, substance abuse, mental health or pre-existing conditions.
ACA vs PRIVATE
The Affordable Care Act is based off of income and age. Covers anyone regardless of medical history & those between 150-400% of the Federal Poverty limit qualify for tax subsides. Those above the poverty limits pay full cost of those plans, which are very expensive. Almost all of these plans are HMO, meaning you can only see their doctors and you're restricted to certian areas. Private plans are based off of health, not everyone qualifies. That's what makes them less expensive and most of the time, better overall coverage. These plans are PPO, meaning you can go to any doctor and offer nathionwide coverage.
